Nobel women and cleavage

I was just watching the news a short while ago and as always, it was a mishmash of the ridiculous and the sublime. The first story is truly inspirational. It highlighted the tremendous accomplishments of 3 dynamic women who won The Nobel Peace Prize: Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, Leymah Gbowee [both from Liberia] and Tawakkul Karman [Yemen], for their work in advancing women's rights and the role of women in peace building efforts. During the news cast the chair of the The Nobel Peace Prize committee said the world cannot achieve democracy and lasting peace "unless women obtain the same opportunities as men to influence developments at all levels of society." WOW.

This story was followed by the bizarre account of Premier Christy Clarke's cleavage-bearing wardrobe. WHA?!? I gather former MLA David Schreck tweeted that Clark showed to much cleavage in the legislature. Really!?! The offensive clothing in question is a V neck dress with a blazer...very conservative by any measure.

The really unfortunate aspect of this is that ridiculously ignorant comments like this distract us from the real issues. For example, I couldn't find online what she was actually addressing while wearing this shocking attire during question period.

And as Clark said: "Why are we wasting our time talking about this when there's much more important things to talk about?"

Excellent point...I guess I should get onto something more important myself...3 Noble Nobel winners in Yemen and Liberia for example.

Clark also quipped: "No Tweet is going to tell me how to dress."

OK. Nuff said.

  1. this brings to mind my 19 yr old son's comment on voting in the provincial election. In doing his due diligence on who to vote for he said he couldn't make up his mind 'because the candidates spent too much time slagging each other and I don't know what they really stand for!' Sad state of affairs! A 19 yr old wanting to cast his vote but .....where??? The only person NOT name calling??? Food for thought!
